Ex-Smoker Preference: Another Interesting Result From Electronic Cigarette Study

by Pat

The recent ECLAT electronic cigarette study is a very interesting analysis on the efficiency and potential of the products as smoking cessation tool.  The results of the study sparked the interests of electronic cigarette opponents to contradict and discredit the trial. The same results also gathered attention and interests from the supporting side.  Aside from the affirming efficiency of electronic cigarettes in helping a smoker to quit; it was also found that it helped the participants experience in their health.  Moreover, the electronic cigarette study also revealed another interesting aspect: the ex-smokers’ preference on the device.

Outdated Tank System Model

One interesting element of the electronic cigarette study, ECLAT, is that participants were given the outdated three-piece model of the device. Nowadays, more vapers are using the two-piece model due to some specific reasons.  Such old models use a tank system in its design.  The main objective of the trial was not about the model of the device used, but the efficiency of electronic cigarettes in stopping a smoker from his/her habit. Yet, this part of ECLAT is worthy to be analyzed to better understand the results of the electronic cigarette study.

The models used were ineptly described as tank systems; however, there was also a specification that most of the models were eGo style. These models include tank systems whose atomizers are re-usable.  The more prominent models available today use atomizers built with the cartridge in one unit, called cartomizer. In a cartomizer, once the liquid is used up, you are more likely going to replace it with a new one. You replace the cartridge and you also replace the atomizer. In terms of battery performance, tank systems have longer battery life than their more current counterpart.

Electronic Cigarette Study Result

The results are somewhat surprising since one would think that all electronic cigarettes are basically the same.  All these devices merely serve the same purpose of replicating the functions of a regular cigarette and thus offer users a closely-resembled smoking experience. Looking more closely, you can see that the older model works better those newer models in terms of effectiveness in functions.

One can guess that the potential reason for the discrepancy is that older tank system models have better battery.  The battery is the life of every electronic cigarette.  Once the battery of a device is reduced, the overall performance of the personal vaporizer is also reduced.  The practical and obvious advantage of the bigger models than the slimmer models is battery. Newer models usually become discharged a lot quicker than older models, thus reducing the quality experience one can get from smoking.

If you are a vaper who likes to take your vaping experience to a higher level, the slimmer and newer models of electronic cigarettes are for you.  This can also be a point of credit for helping someone to quit smoking. If you are a techie person, your interest on technology will provide you with more motivation to quit.  Yet, if you are planning to quit and would like to use a tool that will better resemble smoking, then the older models are for you.  It can be deduced on the results of the electronic cigarette study that the participants probably experienced vaping as something that can be comparable to smoking; thus, they were able to steer away from the habit.

This matter on the electronic cigarette model is just one parameter of the clinical trial that is very open to changes in the other studies that would follow ECLAT. In the succeeding research on electronic cigarettes, perhaps these parameters can be adjusted in order to achieve better understanding about electronic cigarettes and their role in smoking cessation.
